Types of Projects Not Covered
Grant money is intended to pay for a portion of consultants' or industry-specific experts' assistance and cannot be used to:
• Purchase Capital Assets (equipment, buildings, etc•)
• Pay Loans or Loan Guarantees
• Fund Salaries or Sales Commissions
• Procure Non-Specialized Training
• Pay Normal Expenses
• Reimburse Past Expenses
• Buy Advertising Space
• Purchase "Off-the-Shelf" Non-Custom Software Programs
• Pay Trade Show Attendance or Display Costs
• Manufacture Actual End Products (funds cover only development costs such as testing, certification, design and engineering)

Types of Industries TAA Funds
A U.S. Government Accounting Office study of the Trade Adjustment Assistance for firms program shows that, at the time of certification, about 40% of the participating companies were involved in the production of industrial products and machinery, computers, electronic equipment or apparel. Their annual sales ranged from a low of $1.6M to more than $219M, with median sales of $3.2M. Their employee counts ranged from 1 to more than 3,000, with a median of 45.
